Spanning the history of photography from the 1840s to the present day, this book showcases 100 photographs chosen from the many thousands held in collections at Trust properties.
Alongside works by photographers such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Edward Chambré Hardman, Dorothy Wilding, Angus McBean and Jane Bown are remarkable images captured by less familiar practitioners.
Professional studio portraits, landscapes and images of war sit beside family groups, domestic scenes and travel photographs by talented amateurs who provide glimpses into the way we have viewed and recorded the world over the last two centuries. Many of these photographs have only recently been discovered and are reproduced here for the first time.
Anna Sparham is National Curator for Photography at the National Trust. She has worked extensively with historic collections of photographs across the heritage sector. She was formerly Curator of Photographs at the Museum of London.
Robin Muir is a writer and curator specialising in photography. His many publications include The World’s Most Photographed and Cecil Beaton’s Bright Young Things, and he is a Contributing Editor at British Vogue.
100 Photographs is sponsored by CEWE, Europe’s leading photo printing specialist, producing the highest quality photo products loved by photography enthusiasts and professionals alike.
CEWE are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the photo finishing industry – alongside using FSC certified materials, since 2016 they have offset 160,000 tonnes of CO2 through their support of the Kasigau Wildlife Corridor south-west of Kenya.
