Overview

This William Morris Seaweed rug was inspired by the popular Seaweed design from the Morris & Co archive of the work of 19th century designer, artist, writer and socialist, William Morris.

The seaweed design dates back to 1901 and involves a free flowing and sinuous pattern which captures the underwater movement of plants and demonstrates elements of the Art Nouveau style.

‘This summer a new exhibition at Standen House & Garden explores the inspiration behind the popular patterns of flowers and birds in designs by Arts & Crafts firm Morris & Co. From Saturday 1 June until Sunday 10 November 2019. See the inspiration behind Morris & Co.’s designs at Standen.
