A truly unique sculpture - no two are the same - this ceramic raku mouse is finished with a crackle effect.

Each one is hand crafted by artist Paul Jenkins from a unique formulated clay.

It is then bisque fired to a high temperature in a kiln.

Next the sculpture is glazed and kiln fired for a second time.

Finally the little mouse is fired for a third time in a specially designed raku kiln.

Paul Jenkins first started his career in art in the early 70's sculpting in wood and then found himself drawn to sculpting in clay and wax.

Paul's inspirations come from his love of nature, especially animals and many of his pieces are inspired from direct observations of wild animals in their natural habitat.

The raku technique, an ancient firing process originating in Japan, lends each piece a unique quality and creates an interesting crackle effect on the glaze.

It takes approximately one week to produce one sculpture.

Due to the nature of raku firing every sculpture is unique and there may be variants from photo shown.

Ceramic raku hare also available.
