A Sweet Willam seed packet by the National Trust.

Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) Auricula Eyed Mix, offers both scent and colour to the late spring garden. Growing in clusters of small flowers with serrated edges, the delicate petals come in salmon, scarlet and purple shades.

Presented in a traditional brown envelope, these seeds are prepared by one of Britain's most reputable suppliers, Thomas Etty, a heritage seedsman based in Somerset.

Full growing instructions are included on the packet.

Pick up a packet and pair it with one of our garden pots to make a thoughtful gift for an avid gardener.

Thomas Etty Esq offer 450 heritage seed varieties ranging from 1633 to the end of WW2, which are hand packed in Somerset.

National Trust has carefully selected 16 of the most popular varieties for you to choose from.

Hardy biennial (flowering in second year) may be a short term perennial in favourable locations.

Flowers late Spring/Summer.

Can grow to a height of 45cm.

Cultivation: In spring or early summer sprinkle seeds onto well-watered compost in a seed tray. Cover lightly and place the tray in a warm position indoors but out of full sun. Once the seedlings have germinated (which can take up to three weeks) and are large enough, prick out into individual small pots. When the roots reach the bottom in late summer, plant them into the garden where they will flower the following year.
