Mount Stewart: The Big House Reborn DVD

Mount Stewart: The Big House Reborn DVD

Reviews (3)

In its time, Mount Stewart House with its unique gardens, on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, has been home to seven Marquesses of Londonderry – members of one of the richest and most powerful families in the United Kingdom and part of a political dynasty that has helped shape modern Europe.

In 2012, the National Trust in Northern Ireland embarked on its most ambitious restoration project ever – a three year, £8 million scheme to revive both the substance and the grandeur of this magnificent house.

‘The Big House Reborn’ gives viewers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the trials and tribulations of this mammoth project.

The six-part series showcases the skills and expertise of an astounding range of conservators, historians, artisans and engineers, as they lovingly bring this great house and its priceless contents back to their former glory and, at the same time, provides a fascinating insight into the history and the experiences of the people who lived and worked here.

An excellent DVD. Pity we have to go through the UTV intro. Everytime we go to the next chapter

5 stars Christmas Present Written by

I watched the series on TV and really enjoyed it - I liked the mix of history and story telling alongside the documentary of all the renovations. I then bought the DVD as a Christmas present for my grandparents and this is the part of the product / customer experience that I would really praise. I ordered the DVD last minute (22nd December) and it arrived the next day. Really great service. Thank you.

Mount Stewart, what a stunningly handsome house and garden with so much history! The National Trust have done an amazing job in repairing and preserving it for future generations. If ever a place calls to people this one does. The cd is a good place to start to see the time and care invested. I now need to visit to see for myself!
