A stunning piece to display in the home or garden, this handmade horses head is made from recycled teak branches which are carefully selected and skilfully pieced together to produce this stunning horses head.

Produced by a family in a small village in central Java, these unique pieces are made from the fallen branches collected from the surrounding teak plantations.

Suitable for indoor and outdoor display it will turn silver with age if kept outside.

*The teak wood used in this product is recycled and therefore may feature historic marks and holes. These marks and nicks reflect the age and recycled nature of the product making each one a unique piece.

THIS ITEM CAN ONLY BE SHIPPED TO THE UK - PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THIS PRODUCT THERE HAS BEEN A £20 SHIPPING CHARGE ADDED TO THE PRICE OF THIS ITEM.

To save this beautiful wood from going to waste, parts such as branches and roots, not suitable for use in garden furniture, have been transformed into magnificent sculptures.

This is made from 100% teak plantation wood which has been planted as a managed forest.  The wood used is normally the waste wood that would alternatively be used as fire wood by local villages.

This is a sustainable source of timber and replanted as areas become available.

Horses head dimensions approx: H70 x L40 x D20cm

Weight: Approx. 10-12kg

We recommend an annual oiling with teak oil if keeping outside.

3 stars Not a successful gift Written by

I liked the horse's head and bought it as a surprise birthday present for my wife. She love's horse head figures and paintings. However unfortunately she did not like it. I guess the moral of the story is that it is quite unique and very particular. Some will love it and others won't. So beware making it a surprise gift.

5 stars Great looking piece of sculpture Written by

High quality item, looks great having positioned it on a tree stump in a flower bed. Good service from National Trust as well. Can't fault.

1 stars Infested with woodwarms Written by

To my surprise horse head arrived infested with wood worms. Careful if you keep it indoors. I would advise to check it first. I didn't have any warning.

NT Reply: Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear of your suspected woodworm in the Horse’s Head. We immediately took the product off sale and did a thorough check on all of our existing stock and this has come back negative for any live woodworm. We have contacted our supplier and they have assured us there is no woodworm in the horse’s heads. The product is made from recycled teak and as a result - will often feature historic holes and marks and nicks but they are old holes and will produce no dust as there is nothing living in the timber. Tropical hardwoods like teak are not normally attacked. The product is then stored carefully in an indoor warehouse prior to dispatch and we inspect all the products prior to dispatch, so there is no risk of contamination in transit. The holes you may be seeing are historic – but if you would like to talk this through – please do contact our customer services team on 0300 1232025.

5 stars Stunning! Written by

I absolutely love this sculpture, it's stunning! It takes on different appearance when you look at it in different lights, in the dusk it almost looks as though it would swish its head, so realistic. Best birthday present i could have had!

5 stars Beautiful Written by

This is a stunning piece of art work, larger than I expected and all the more beautiful for it. I look forward to positioning it in my garden and watching it weather.

5 stars Wonderful sculpture - as lovely as I had hoped Written by

I first saw the horse's head at National Trust shop in Bodnant Gardens (Wales) when on recent holiday- fell in love with it - and knew I had to buy one. Ordered it from the National Trust catalogue as soon as I got home. Initially I planned to place the sculpture in my garden but it now has pride of place indoors. All my visitors love it as much as I do! On a practical note - the 'head' arrived well packaged and very quickly. I have already phoned to say thank you for your service. I feel I have something very special and totally individual in its own way.

Simply loved.

5 stars Great quality Written by

Really impressed. Was concerned that I couldn't view before purchase but very happy once delivered.

5 stars Wonderful gift Written by

This was a birthday gift and the recipient was thrilled with it. It's very unusual and good that it can be for outside or inside.

5 stars Absolutely stunning sculpture Written by

This is a beautiful sculpture and anyone who likes horses will love it! The photo doesn't do it justice as in real life it is so heavy and the pieces of wood have been wonderfully crafted to make the shape of the horses head. It looks perfect in our small victorian walled garden and i can't stop looking at it. Don't hesitate as it will go out of stock! You really won't regret it....Well worth the money and something to treasure forever.

5 stars Horse Head Recycled Wood Written by

A great piece, probably better than I thought. It is a talking point, it is a strong, majestic piece.

5 stars Stunning piece Written by

Absolutely gorgeous focal point in our garden. We've looked for months to find something to create a feature in a corner of our garden where nothing will grow and we've seen some truly awful things, regardless of price. However, this is perfect - neither stately home nor tacky. Big enough to draw the eye but not overwhelming and it will only improve as the wood fades to grey. Perfect!

4 stars A lovely wooden sculpture for a garden room. Written by

We are very pleased with the Horse's Head, which is well made and interesting.

5 stars Horses Head Written by

A great piece of sculpture and great value. Looks fantastic in our garden. Delivery was swift and ahead of stated delivery information. Good service.

5 stars Stunning and Unique Written by

My wife saw this piece while we were visiting York, it is beautiful and really makes a statement in our garden. I cannot understand how it can be so low in price, given the work and obvious talent of the artist.

5 stars I call mine Albert Written by

I saw the horse head at the flower festival that Di has written about. He/she (the horse head)was stunning as was the display representing War Horse. I just had to have one. We went to Nostell Priory last weekend and there were 3 of them and even better they were reduced. My neighbours adore him as do I. Why Albert? After Albert Ramsbottom who poked Wallace, the lion, with his stick with "the 'orse's 'ed 'andle. The finest that Woolworth's did sell. My thanks to Di for the inspiration to get my own horse and to Marriott Edgar for the monologue. By the way Nostell Priory has some wonderful Chippendale furniture but my Albert is the pick of the bunch.

5 stars Beautiful Sculpture at a bargain price Written by

How NT do this sculpture for so little is amazing. Do hope the makers get a fair price Hoping the mails used are galvanised so the sculpture lasts. Excellent…

5 stars A real 'Wow'statement piece Written by

I bought this sculpture to go in an exhibition piece I was doing for a local Flower Festival. It was part of my War Horse arrangement, but I didn't expect the interest and positive comments I got! It would look as great outside as well as in and I plan to let it weather to the wonderful grey colour teak will go, I love it!!!

5 stars Happy customer Written by

Saw it at Cliveden, then bought on-line for a friend who's just been elected an MP & will have to put her horses out on loan. Very happy with the present & has it in her conservatory looking out over the horses' field.

4 stars Unusual but nice piece of art Written by

Very nice and unusual sculpture. Nicer when treated with teak oil before placing it somewhere. Only difficulty is when buying online, no opportunity to select which one is sent. As they all differ slightly a choice would be ideal.

5 stars horse's head Written by

Saw this in Fountains Abbey shop but could not fit into an already overflowing car boot. Bought on line and delighted with it. Gave it two coats of teak oil to protect and it sits resplendent in the garden. Thought it might blow over but it is resisting all the winds thus far!

5 stars Beautiful, unique and sustainable Written by

A real statement item. Supporting not just the National Trust but also international sustainability.

5 stars recycled horses head from Java Written by

I ordered this head from the NT's website, after falling in love with it in Seahouses shop, which was shut at the time. it arrived very promptly within 2 days and looks wonderful in my courtyard garden. I put two coats of teak oil on it before putting it out on a plinth. I too, would love to know more about the family who made it - and also to let them know how much British people are enjoying them!

5 stars Very pleased wth recycled horses head Written by

Having seen the recycled horses head on the national trust online shop I bought one for my partner for this christmas. All I hoped was it looked like a horses head and came undamaged. Delivery was prompt and very well packaged. Looked great , being a cabinetmaker I have an eye for detail . I would struggle to make this for the price they sell at . I just put 3 coats of teak oil on mine and it really brought out the colours of the wood . I have already had thee people say it's great .

4 stars Very pleased Written by

I was delighted with the promptness of the delivery. Having seen these in Seahouses while on holiday and not having enough room in my car to transport it home I was delighted to find it on the website. the heads in Seahouses were a little more refined - this head is a bit crude in comparison, but nevertheless it is lovely.

5 stars Horses Head ... Written by

I purchased the horses head online after seeing it in the National Trust shop in Salisbury. Absolutely stunning sculpture, so unusual and completely different! Very pleased with my purchase and received a very good service from the NT, many thanks for this wonderful item !!

5 stars Horse Head Sculpture Written by

Went on hoilday to Northumberland and fell in love with sculpture displayed in the window of The National Trust Shop in Seahouses. Not the easiest piece to carry home in the car but well worth the effort and it is now has pride of plave in my garden. So happy that they are now available online as I felt a little guilty telling all my friends to travel all the way to Seahouses to get their own.

5 stars teak horse's head Written by

A lovely sculpture which I saw at a National Trust shop but couldn't bring home by train! Still tempted ,in spite of price,on return and ordered by internet. It now sits on a pedestal stand in an attractive area of the garden. Too big to be near the house and although obviously slightly different from the one viewed is lovely to see when we enter that section of the garden. I believe there was something similar when visiting the Eden Project years ago. Thankyou- and to the Javanese family involved in the construction. p.s Although longtime retired I am an incurable horse lover, once rider.

5 stars Horses Head Sculpture Written by

Ordered on line no post to pay on delivery which was a bonus. Delighted with the sculpture and looks wonderful in the garden. I still have to treat the wood with teak oil. I would recormmend ordering goods on line, which I will use in future.

5 stars Horse head recycled teak sculpture. Written by

Just love this sculpture bought last week at Trelissick Gardens. It looks absolutely stunning in our garden. It is very well made and I have treated it with teak oil as suggested and it has brought out the colour of the wood even more. I would love to know more about the family who made it.
