5 stars Delightful Game, Beautifully Presented. Written by

Very good quality production of the original Peter Rabbit Race Game and lovely to have if you are a Beatrix-Potter-phile! Or even if you're not. Good fun to play, for 2 to 4 players, with highs and lows en route, although winning is entirely based on chance, unless you happen to know how to throw a particular number with the dice!! (Beatrix herself commented that she knew a child who'd learnt to throw sixes, which somewhat spoilt things. ) Previous editions of this game from 1921, 1946 etc are up for sale these days at considerably more than this one costs, and this one is in pristine condition. Of course, this is not the Peter Rabbit board game designed by Beatrix one foggy day in 1904, a square-to-square chase game between Peter and Mr McGregor as per the tale in the book, as this was not considered marketable at the time, and I don't think F Warne & Co could quite understand Beatrix's rules. (I have a copy myself - it was finally released in 1995 as a collector's edition - and I have one or two points myself which I would like to clarify with Miss Potter!) However, Beatrix had designed her game to suit her own childhood (since she had a very isolated one) - one child playing with an adult. She ultimately agreed that Warne's version was more marketable, although she still preferred her own one. (And, maybe, so do I.)
