The National Trust and the Public Catalogue Foundation have collaborated to produce catalogues of all oil paintings in National Trust houses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This catalogue includes pictures and captions of around 2,400 oil paintings located at National Trust properties in the South of England including London, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Essex.
Brought to life are paintings from properties associated with well-known figures such as Thomas Carlyle’s House in Chelsea, Henry James’s Lamb House in Rye, Rudyard Kipling’s Bateman’s in the Sussex Weald, Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson’s Sissinghurst Castle and Sir Winston Churchill’s home at Chartwell.
More unusual collections include Stanley Spencer’s fine First World War murals at Sandham Memorial Chapel and the Arts and Crafts collection at Standen.

2 stars Excellent publication shame about the service and packing! Written by
This series of catalogues produced by the Public Catalogue Foundation is an excellent national resource and those produced by the NT are of great interest recording those paintings both on display along with those not seen by the public. The feel of the covers is extraordinary: almost rubbery in texture which makes them easy to hold. Unfortunately, the NT Shop doesn't seem to know how to pack items for dispatch and mine were damaged. I recommend the catalogues but also that you try somewhere else when purchasing!
