The National Trust and the Public Catalogue Foundation have collaborated to produce catalogues of all oil paintings in National Trust houses across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
This catalogue includes pictures and captions of around 2,500 paintings from National Trust properties located in the West of England including the counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. From superb collections such as those at Kingston Lacy, Saltram and Stourhead, the volume also includes paintings from more unusual buildings such as the 16-sided house of A la Ronde, Lutyens 20th-century Castle Drogo, Snowshill, and the Elizabethan mansion of Montacute.
Paintings are also described from properties well known for their former residents such as Agatha Christie’s home at Greenway in Devon and the D’Oyly Carte musical family at Coleton Fishacre. Paintings by Gainsborough, Reynolds, Angelica Kauffman, Rubens, Titian, Tintoretto and Murillo, along with works by modern artists such as John Piper, are drawn from 60 properties.

4 stars Very Good Resources Written by

I ordered the entire set, so I won't review individually. I bought them for myself though I intend to gift them to our Museum Library. I was a little disappointed at the size of some of the lesser pictures, but most important works are full page. The books, shipped from overseas, were not well packed. The box was flimsy and had been re-taped in transit. Some of the books were slightly damaged, but usable. I recommend buying one at a time since NT doesn't seem capable of securely packing multiple items.

2 stars Excellent publication shame about the service and packing! Written by
This series of catalogues produced by the Public Catalogue Foundation is an excellent national resource and those produced by the NT are of great interest recording those paintings both on display along with those not seen by the public. The feel of the covers is extraordinary: almost rubbery in texture which makes them easy to hold. Unfortunately, the NT Shop doesn't seem to know how to pack items for dispatch and mine were damaged. I recommend the catalogues but also that you try somewhere else when purchasing!
